High Atlas Mountains

It long windy, white-knuckle drive on narrow roads with no guardrails and impressive drop offs but the scenery was spectacular as long as you didn’t look down.  We were both so happy NOT to be driving!  Low clouds obscured the mountaintops as the road snaked its way through the rugged landscape.

Villages dotted the hillsides and a welcoming fire welcomed us at one of the mountain restaurants where we stopped for coffee.

A very long day of travel through the High Atlas Mountains finally landed us in Marrakesh where after checking into our beautiful riad we took a short orientation walk.

I love staying in these old homes and we have been lucky to have them located within an easy walk of the markets and old parts of the cities; there is a warmth and ambiance in the riads that you don’t get in a big hotel.  The staff made us feel welcome and we became part of the neighborhood for a few days.
