Plantation Life Owner and Slave

We spent one day along the Great River Road visiting two plantations and noted a remarkable difference between the two, Oak Alley was quite opulent and probably what you picture when you think of Southern plantation with the big old house, wrap around porch and gorgeous grounds.  It’s easy to picture the family sitting on the veranda sipping mint juleps.

The Laura Plantation is a Creole working plantation and still has the original slave quarters, shockingly small space for two families to share.

It was interesting to see the difference of how a French Creole family lived and an English family, worth seeing both and they are close to each other.
